Born in Albemarle, North Carolina, with a Bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State and a Masters degree from the University of South Carolina, Ellen Lorene Hudson Holweg works in a wide variety of media to create both two- and three-dimensional art. Her work includes paintings, drawings, relief sculptures, and pyroengraved gourds; most of it is about spirituality, on some level.
An art teacher at Eastside High School in Greenville, SC, Ellen creates fine quality Giclee prints of many of her paintings to make her work more affordable. Currently, she is focusing on several different series: one of members of the animal kingdom (note a distinct preference for cats!), one of ethnic people in native attire, and another honoring Native Americans.
Ellen’s work is featured in the Pickens County Museum in Pickens, SC, USC Upstate in Spartanburg, SC, and a number of private and public collections. She has also taught numerous workshops, for the Kohinoor Company and others, on media and technique.
Ellen and her husband, a fellow artisan, live with a daughter, son, Boykin spaniel, and four cats in Six Mile, South Carolina.
