Karen Lucci, affectionately known in art circles as the "Woman of Colors," calls herself "a northerner by birth, a southerner by choice, and an artist by grace." A resident of Upstate New York for many years, she moved south in 1992 with her husband, Phil, whom she has known since the days when they were neighbors and rode the school bus together. They have two children and five grandchildren scattered around the world.
Karen is a prolific, intuitive artist who loves to experiment and immensely enjoys the creative process. Mostly self taught, she loves using vibrant colors—no matter what the medium—and she is famous for her brilliant, jewel toned artwork. She readily admits that she paints her house "a lot!," and thinks too much beige in the world is a primary reason for people's unhappiness. Although trained as a fine artist, Karen has gravitated toward "fun" art in recent years and declares that she has found her true niche; the increasing demand for her whimsical, folk art creations testifies to that end.
In exploring ways to use recycled products in a purposeful way, Karen began creating tiny purses made from recycled plastic bags. Calling them "trash bags," she applies her special brand of creative genius and gives each one some fanciful detail—such as a handmade polymer clay button, a few glass beads, or hand-stamped words of affirmation and joy. Each bag is unique; Karen calls them "adventurously reconstituted with passion, not perfection!"
Karen also makes jewelry, notecards, and art prints; we hope to have all her products featured on Magnolia Trappings soon. Check back often to see what new products this "Woman of Colors" has come up with; her creativity knows no end!
