Nancy tells this story about this design: Alaskan Native Winter Games More than 560 nations of Native American people live in the United States today and speak more than 250 different languages. Many of these nations are in Alaska. The name Eskimo means something like blubber eater and is inappropriate. Some of the names of the people are Inuit, Aleut and Inupik. Igloos were only used as winter hunting lodges. Natives there have traditional games played in winter other than making snow people. Since 1972, these Arctic Sports have been included in all Arctic Winter Games. Natives out in remote regions rely on their physical abilities to ensure collective survival. High kicks, arm, head and finger pulls, greased stick pulls, jumps over sledges and snow snake, the throwing of carved snake-like spears over a frozen course, are some of the games now played. Strength, endurance, accuracy, resistance to pain and the spirit of cooperation are the qualities defining the Arctic games.
Nancy uses recyled materials to create her art cards, so colors vary. If you prefer a specific color scheme, please note your preference in the "Notes" box when placing your order, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
