The whooping crane is the tallest North American bird, an endangered crane species known for its whooping sound and call. Adult whooping cranes are white with a red crown and a long, dark pointed bill. Occasionally seen in the coastal wetlands of South Carolina, there are only 500 of these big beautiful birds in existence today. I wanted to pay tribute to them through my art.
