Nancy tells this story about this design: The Three Sisters The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) people of New York and Canada, planted Corn, Beans and Squash in mounds. They call them the Sisters. Corn can withstand high winds, mixed crops aren't as likely to be destroyed by pests, and Corn provides a support pole for her climbing sister, Bean. Bean takes nitrogen from the air and gives it to the soil making the home better for the other two. Squash spreads her large leaves over the ground keeping in the moisture and helps prevent weeds for them all. The Southerwestern Zuni, found that to keep their desert gardens growing, a latdekwi:we, waffle like area kept the precious rain near the plants. Like our scarescrow, they put a humanlike being in the garden. He was called "watcher of the corn sprouts."
Note: Nancy uses recyled materials to create her art cards, so colors vary. If you prefer a specific color scheme, please note your preference in the "Notes" box when placing your order, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
